Be a dancer - Be an Artist in the Maximum Expression

So proud to present our newest video!

It's a promo of our art school AME. My leader asked me to make a promo video. Honestly, I wasn't really enthusiastic about it, because finding good video recordings about the stuff we do as a school and ministry is frustrating sometimes...

Well, however luckily I prayed and asked Daddy's opinion. So He gave me this idea to make a story. I started forming this idea of a dancer, musician and actor preparing themselves for a show and thinking deep stuff in the same way. So instead of just using already filmed material I planned to film something new.

When I told my idea to my leader she liked it but took it to a totally new level. She made it more real and dramatic and split one video to three different stories!

So we wrote and filmed this first part quickly. Naka was the director, while Cami filmed the most of it. The actors are all from our base, as usual :D Later on we edited the material with Naka and I composed the music with Joel.

To be honest I'm super happy for this product. It could be a way better of course, but we still have two more videos to make ;) Let it touch you and come to do our school! Or at least share it forward.

P.S. It's the same school I came to do here in 2011. It will change your life!

Who we are?

Hey!

This is something I've wanted to do for a long time! I really would like to introduce the amazing people I'm serving with. They truly are as a family for me! They are the AME Art Ministry.

Here at the YWAM base in Ituzaingó, Buenos Aires we are around a hundred staff members serving voluntarily and full-timely. Each staff member belong to an ministry which is the group of work where they spend the most of the time of their days. The ministries are focused in different spheres of the society: family, education, sports, arts, communication etc.

So today I will introduce you the ART MINISTRY AME (Artists in their Maximum Experience)

The art ministry of YWAM Ituzaingo is composed of an internationally diverse cast of artists. Our main focus is to use all areas of artistic expression to feature principles and values. Through what we do we try to challenge society to embrace a different worldview.
OBJECTIVES:
  • To co-create with God and to express his heart through the arts, seeking out new creativity and taking hope and salvation to people.
  • To disciple and minister to artists.
  • To redeem the arts of all nations.
How do we do it?
Through different artistic disciplines, participating in social, cultural and sporting events, offering workshops and performances to churches through the following projects:

  • Art Studio
  • AME School
  • Liberarte
  • Bands
  • AME productions
Additionally, our ministry has the vision of promoting artistic events during summer and winter vacations in the more touristic locations of Argentina like Mar del Plata and Villa Carlos Paz. By doing this we offer a family-friendly and evangelistic show to the public. Our goal is to be a part of the official show business grid, to participate in national awards in Argentine theater and to bring influence and transformation to this area of society.

Merry Christmas and Blessed 2016

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Hope you all had the best Christmas ever! I spent mine in the coast of Argentina in a city called Mar del Plata. I came here to the local YWAM base to rest a bit before starting the 2016 with everything!

This year 2015 has been full of action as the missionary life always seems to be. Once again it's hard to believe that all these things happened in one year. Let's see a bit.

It was the beginning of the year as we created the musical "Huesos Secos" with the art school students and performed it. The school finished in March and some students joined our ministry.

The YWAM conference was this year in Mendoza. We went a bit beforehand to help with the sound system. But beyond the work it was time to renew in the Spirit. In 2016 the conference will be in our base..!

One of the happiest memories of the year was when Marko, my youth pastor from Finland came to see me here! We even got to know the famous waterfalls in the North of the country.

We also got to arrange LIBERARTE, the art event for the youth of our city. This year was very fruitful cause some of the guys stayed in contact with us and we were able to disciple them.

Then the real miracle of the year was our outreach to USA. I had a little faith in the beginning but by your help the trip came true! And how God blessed every single detail..!

Our second outreach was to the South of Argentina where we performed our family musical in 7 different cities, all together 25 times including schools, churches, theaters even outside... Thousands of kids heard the message salvation through this play.

In September we had this unique opportunity to record three songs in a professional studio with our band Pujahca! It was something we didn't expect but God just arranged it all! Such a great experience!

And the rest of the year we had three weddings at the base, we started reaching out the hip-hop culture, continued giving art classes, celebrated the Christmas with the neighborhood and many more things...

This was just a quick look to the year to be able to WONDER God's goodness and faithfulness! Remember that all this was possible because of your support and prayers! I couldn't be able to do any of this by myself! So thank you soooo much!

The year hasn't been super easy but it's good to see how fruitful it was anyway! I'm expecting new things of 2016 and trusting that Daddy has some cool stuff prepared for all of us!

We'll start the new year with an art seminar. The invitation is open for everyone!

P.S. Even though my plan and vision is to stay here in Argentina and serve Lord here for now I do want to visit home back in Finland this year! So please join me in prayer so everything will fit together!

Teaser

A short teaser of our show! We still have three shows left: today and Sunday in a theatre and tomorrow in a church. And next week the students will graduate! The six months are almost over! I'm super grateful to God! Thanks for being with me during all this time!

travelling & growing

Hey!

We just finished our investigation month on Friday. It was a month when we split as a group and travelled to different cities to investigate the artistic movements.

To be honest I was a bit afraid or at least nervous thinking about this time beforehand. I haven't been leading a group to different cities before. But I'm really thankful I didn't need be in charge of the group by myself but we formed a good leadership team with Camila and Joel.

Now when the trip is over I can only be thankful to Daddy. He really covered us and blessed us in so many ways. I didn't burn out or anything like that but I grew in service and leadership during this time.

During the first two weeks on the coast we got to see lots of shows. However the following two weeks in the downtown had a bit different focus. The fact is that we didn't have enough money to continue the school. So everyone who's lacking school fees did something to raise funds.

So almost everyday we went out to the streets of Buenos Aires to sell homemade bread. Some days our dancers performed on the streets and they even made some kind of flash mob another day. God was faithful and we were able to gain quite an amount of money.

Thanks for your prayers and support! It was super important during this time also when there were some additional costs.

Guys dancing on the walking street.
Sometimes I encouraged myself to dance as well :)

Yes, even inside of the train! This brought us good income.
However we almost ended up being kicked off by a police officer...

So the next phase of the school is PRODUCTION. As a group we're going to form a show and present it in one of the cities we visited during last month.

This becoming season also has a great challenge for us. Especially we need help with the wardrobe. We have many staff members with sewing skills but we are lacking sewing machines. So if anyone is willing to donate for this purpose, just let me know!

And to finish, just check this dance from November. I'm really exciting for our production because it will be even ten times better than this one!

¡Feliz navidad!

I wish merry and blessed Christmas to all you readers, friends and supporters with some news:

written on 21st of December

I'm writing this update on a train. We are leaving Mar del Plata behind and heading for the downtown of Buenos Aires.

We are in a new season of the school. The classes are behind and this month is dedicated to an artistic investigation. The idea is to get to know cities with strong artistic movement. As we are many in the school we split up. In my team we have six students: Jason, Mora and Lester from Guatemala, Gerald from Nicaragua, Mirja from Finland and Lorena from El Salvador. My amazing co-leaders are Joel (Argentina) and Camila (Chile). As none of the students is Argentine we decided to stay in Argentina because it has lots of stuff to be seen and discovered.

So we just spent two weeks in Mar del Plata, in the touristic city on the coast of Argentina. This was actually my second time there this year! In February we presented our musical over there. This time we stayed at the local YWAM base. It was totally best for us! The guys welcomed us so well and we got to spend really good time together as well. The base is only one block from the beach. To be honest it's a great privilege and blessing to be able to go to the coast. It's totally beautiful and relaxing!

We got to see different shows almost every night: music, dance, theatre, street art etc. We have break dancers in our group and anywhere we went the guys got to dance and the people were super interested. This also opened doors to new contacts and to evangelize people.

Mirja teaching ballet to the ywamers

For me leading a group to another city is quite a new experience and that's why I'm super thankful that I'm not alone. Together with the other leaders we compliment each others and also share the burden.

For me the first week was a bit difficult because I got sick. I had strong allergies and right after I got an infection in my throat. So I spent few days in bed with high fever. It wasn't easy because I felt I'm more like a burden than a help. But God was treating my heart. He affirmed me once again and taught me that my leadership or authority don't come by what I achieve but straight from Him.

I'm so thankful to Daddy for these two weeks of care and blessing! Tonight we'll get to the "Capital base" of YWAM. That's the base in the downtown of Buenos Aires where I did my counseling school two years ago. We'll continue our investigation in the centre. However we'll head back to our home base for Christmas and new year. It's better so spend the holidays in a familiar environment as most of the guys spend their first Christmas away from home.

Thank you friends for making this trip possible! Your support has allowed me to join the team and share the financial challenge as well. Your prayers sustain me and drag me deeper to God time after time.

So let's thank Daddy:

  • For healing me and also treating my heart
  • For taking so good care of us
  • For His grace every morning ;)

Please be praying for us:

  • For the financial challenge of the group (they are lately doing their best: selling bread and dancing in the parks to get some money)
  • For protection and health
  • For wisdom and discerning to everyone in the leadership

Our students dancing..!

In the AME school the students need to show every two weeks what they have been learning. This is one of the performances. It's the first choreography that all the dancers made together and participated. Enjoy!

the first month of AME 2014

Hey!

It has been already more than a month since we started the AME art school! Time has gone pretty fast but everything has gone well. The days has been long as usual but it hasn't been that tiring as I was afraid of. The students get up 6:30 every morning and have activities till 22:30 PM. So the school itself is really intense and during the day I myself hardly have any break to stop for a while.

For me it has been challenging but in a good way. My responsibilities aren't that heavy and I'm not even discipleling anyone. With the translation I'm always a bit more exposed and that's hard in the moments when you don't just flow. However I'm so thankful for our amazing staff team. We have such a nice environment of trust and mutual help.

So we still have one month and a half left of the lecture phase. After that we'll head for a month of investigation. But I'll write more about that when we have more information to be published.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell! This week we received more students! There is this Guatemalan group of hip hop dancers who left their country to come here to do our school. At this moment nine of them are already here! It's a true miracle of God because they didn't have enough finances to do the whole trip. However we're still waiting for the last part of them. Please be praying with us!

I'm quite proud of our students! They're amazing!

One school more... This time staffing!

Welcoming words

Three years and plus I came to Argentina to do an art school "A.M.E." The six months of the school really changed my life in a good way. The base here was such a good environment for me that I followed God's voice and came back. Now I have been serving for three years in the art ministry.

Today the school started once again. We have new students and I'm working as a staff this time. I will be serving mostly with the translation, recording and translation. I'm more than grateful to God for this great upgrade in my life. It's an honor to serve others in such a powerful school as this.

I'm also really thankful for all of you my supporters. You truly bless me and I don't need to worry about the costs but instead I'm able to bless others! You guys are really sowing to the nations!

Please be praying for us; for the students and for the staff as well.

ready for the national conference

A brief update!

I have been now for two weeks back at my "home base" in the province of Buenos Aires. So I came back to work in the art ministry. Honestly it's good to be back and we're living new, interesting times with the ministry.

As most of you know I first came to Argentina in 2011 to do my art School "AME" here in this base. As a ministry we planned to do the school once again this year. However the plans changed a bit. So now we have 6 more people on the base from all around the world. But instead of taking the art school they work in the ministry as staff members and receive some classes in the same time. So instead of the art school AME we run a six-month-long internship with the new guys.

Ok, ok, let me explain. I was TRANSLATING this theatre make up class... Just translating, ok? But yeah, I'm the person on the left.
The guys of internship: Michel (Colombia), Daniela (Italy), Laura (Brazil), Camila (Chile), Katie (Australia) , Milena (the small girl, not part of our ministry) and Matias (New Caledonia) Hope to put some other pictures also in the future haha.

So I have been already fully part of the ministry: translating, cleaning, helping with worship, taking theory classes (identity, the enemies of an artist, team work...), technical classes (singing, salsa, dance...), painting, playing with Jeremy etc etc.

But now I'm more than anything writing because in few hours we'll leave to the coast! We'll have the national conference of YWAM Argentina. That means that all the ywamers in Argentina (400+) get together for five days!

This is first conference I will be participating and seriously I'm really excited. Surely I'll have so much new friends..! And I can just imagine the spiritual part of the conference. I'm so blessed with all the experince and wisdom that God has placed on YWAM. So I can only imagine how God will manifest Himself when we get together like this.

So just wanted to share this excitement and tell that I won't be available for 5 days... bless!

AME 2013 promotion

Check this out! This is a video we made with Jeremy to promote our art school 2013! It's the school I did here in 2011 and the reason I first came to Argentina. I will be staffing this becoming school.

So if you are musician, dancer or actor... have calling to arts... want to make difference in the area of arts... want to know more God as an Artist... Please pray about doing this 6 month school. It's challenging but it's worth it!

like I never was away

I have been here in Buenos Aires now for one week and half or something. However it feels like a month or something! Here at the base we'll always have our days so full. I have also adapted myself here well I guess, so actually I almost feel I never was away from here.

Something I have already done. I designed a flyer to advertise Hiram's concert in Puerto Rico. Hiram is leading the art ministry with his wife Paula, but now he's in Puerto Rico raising some funds to the family. I also made a short video to advertise the concert.

I have also been working with another video: AME school 2013. Our ministry starts running a 6 month art school for dancers, actors and musicians. That was the reason I first came to Argentina last year - to do the AME school 2011. Anyway, with this video I'm working with we want to promote the school. I'll post it here at soon as it's ready!

I'm also making some paper work to get a residence of Argentina so I wouldn't need to get out of the country every 3 months... It has already been a bit of work... Praise God I have friends helping me with this complicated paper stuff. Btw, it's all in Spanish...

I have been playing keyboard in some worship times and also practiced with Jeremy's band. This Monday we also got together with some artists to have a small Bible study in downtown. Oh, and I also started my singing classed once again!

This all has been a lot of work but we have also celebrated! My friend's brother got married last Saturday! Jonatan did the art school with me and I have become to know his brother by visiting his house a lot. I was so happy for the invitation and even more happy that I actually got the opportunity to participate la fiesta.

Jonatan did the AME school with me in 2011. Maika did her DTS in the same time. They didn't get married.

They did!

From the beginning of la fiesta.

Few hours later...

Today we had El Día Del Niño (Children's day) here in Argentina. As a base we arranged a big party and invited all the kids from the neighborhood to come. 150 kids came today for few hours to the base.

We played some games and ate some sweet things. But this year we also shared something important to the children. During the day we talked about child abuse and how to prevent oneself from sexual abuse. Here in Buenos Aires it's such a great problem so we wanted to bless these kids with this really important message. It's not an easy theme to talk but we had prepared few plays to make things easier to understand. Every child also received a book with the important message how to keep oneself safe.

"¡Felíz Día del Niño! un regalo inolvidable"
- I worked the whole morning (4 hours) making this...

From the play: Grandma telling her grandchildren
how to take care of one's private parts.

Happy kids with their books in the end of the day.

The day was long and stressing but everything went super well. With all kids we prayed Jesus to come into our life. Some kids also shared their experiencies about some kind of abuse. Most of the kids had their parents with them so we were also able to share with them what we have on our heart.

I'm giving thanks for:

  • I had the opportunity to be in the wedding
  • I have seen many of my friends again!
  • How God used us to minister the kids of this neighborhood today
  • God answered all my prayers I posted last time!

I'm praying for:

  • everything that has to do with my residence... The whole process is a bit complicated
  • deeper encounters with God
  • my finances - it has been a step of faith to come here again for such a long time
